AN AKSARAY KILIM CENTRAL ANATOLIA, 18TH CENTURY AN AKSARAY KILIM Price Realized: £2,390, $4,426, Price includes buyer's premium Estimate: £2,500 - £3,500 ($4,630 - $6,482) Sale Information Sale 9959 oak, country furniture, folk art, works of art and sculptureincluding the adam clayton collection of rugs and carpets 10 November 2004 London, South Kensington Lot Description AN AKSARAY KILIM CENTRAL ANATOLIA, 18TH CENTURY The ivory field with two columns of polychrome large hooked panels containing lozenges and minor motifs flanking a central column of hooked lozenges, decorated skirt at each end, remains of crenellated border at each side, localised damages, backed 13ft. x 3ft.4in. (396cm. x 102cm.) Lot Notes This is probably the oldest kilim in the collection. Although it probably originally had a border running along each side, its lack probably enhances the power of the strongly coloured motifs. A very similar example, but complete with border, was exhibited in Germany (B. Frauenknecht: Early Turkish Tapestries, Nürnberg, 1984, pl.49). Half of another similar kilim is in the McCoy Jones Collection (C. Cootner: The Caroline and H. McCoy Jones Collection, San Francisco, 1990, pl.39, p.163). Seen on http://www.Christies.com |
