Galerie Arabesque Uzbec main carpet Price 450 (EUR) Size 223cm(W) x 263cm(L) / 7'4"(W) x 8'8"(L) Item Type Rug/Carpet Region Uzbek, Uzbekistan Date First half 19th century (1800 - 1849) Condition Poor fairly complete but very worn. Top two corners have been repaired. Structure pile, asymmetric knot open right Materials wool and goat Full Description needs a bath but even with the dirt the wonderful colors show through. Most of the knotting is Kirghiz and the weft is natural ivory wool. Allowing for the economics of wool at the time, to use the most expensive type in lieu of camel was something that the Uzbeks on the Amu Darya could afford whereas the Kirghiz could not. Uzbeks hired and even owned Kirghiz whereas the opposite was never true. It follows then that an Uzbek weaving may have Kirghiz knotting while Kirghiz carpets would not have Uzbek knotting.
