Galerie Arabesque Very nomadic Tekke main Price 7000 (EUR) Size 193cm(W) x 274cm(L) / 6'4"(W) x 9'0(L) Item Type Rug/Carpet Region Tekke, Turkmen Date Early 19th century (1800 - 1833) Condition Good, the pile is decent and reasonably even throughout. There are two old medium sized reweaves in the center of the carptet plut two small patches; one at the top end and one in the middle left side. In addition there is a small stabilized hole. Parts of the kelim ends are extant. Structure pile, asymmetric knot open right Materials wool and camel Full Description this carpet has a torba weave and handle. If folded vertically in thirds and rolled it makes a very small cannister shaped package not much larger than a tennis ball can that would fit easily behind the saddle of a horse. The carpet took several years to weave resulting in at least eight palette shifts most apparent in the yellows and resultant greens and more subtlely so in the other colors. This frequent uprooting and replanting of the loom may also be seen in the sides which deviate radically from a straight line. After a good portion of the carpet was woven the strength of the finished body portion prevented the warps from reassuming their original tension which resulted in the shrinking of the verical axis of the design; most noticeably in the guls causing them to become elongated or flattened at the top end. It is obvious that this carpet was not made for sale or in a settlement. in short, it is the most nomadic Tekke main carpet that I have seen. JBOC Notes: White wool warps with a tight spin. The wefts are brown wool and do not appear to be as tightly spun |
