Galerie Arabesque Tejend Tekke torba Item Details Size 112cm(W) x 47cm(L) / 3'8"(W) x 1'7"(L) Item Type Torba Region Tekke, Turkmen Date Early 19th century (1800 - 1833) Condition Good, pile is almost full but has a small split and minor moth. Structure pile, asymmetric knot open right Materials wool, camel, and goat. Full Description like all Tekke weavings from the Tejend swamp this torba has an iron induced sheen that make it very difficult to photograph accurately. I've turned the piece in every possible direction to show how this affects its appearance. The image labeled 'back' is the closest to its true color. The Tejend is where the Tekke guerrilla fighters based themselves during this tribes' period of conquest; 1780 to 1860. It was a place plagued with quicksand, malaria, dangerous reptiles, insects, and large predators. From here the Tekke could strike with little fear of being struck back. JBOC Notes: |
